There’s an undeniable moment—where what once felt right… doesn’t anymore. You’re still good at it. You can still do it. But something inside you said NO MORE. The energy it takes feels different. The fulfillment isn’t the same. The motivation doesn’t land the way it used to. And that’s where the confusion comes in. Because nothing is “wrong.” So why does it feel like something is?
My Turning Point
For me, that shift became impossible to ignore after cancer. Not because cancer caused the misalignment. But because it removed my ability to override it. Before, I could push through anything. And I did. Ignore the feeling. Stay busy. Keep performing. But after going through something that stripped everything back…I couldn’t unsee what I had built my life on. I started to recognize that my career—something I had spent years building—wasn’t random. It was rooted. In patterns I had learned early. A need to be needed. A need to do things well. A need to create value through what I could hold for others. And while those qualities aren’t inherently wrong… they were no longer the full truth of who I was.
Misalignment Isn’t Failure
This is the part I wish more people understood: Feeling misaligned doesn’t mean you’ve made a mistake. It means you’ve evolved. What once fit…no longer does. What once made sense… no longer resonates. And that feels disorienting. Especially when your life still looks “good” from the outside.
The Cost of Staying Misaligned
The longer you stay in something that doesn’t match you… the more it shows up in subtle ways. Fatigue that doesn’t fully go away Disinterest in things you used to care about. A sense of going through the motions. Not because you’re incapable. But because something deeper isn’t being met.
What Alignment Actually Feels Like
Alignment doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It doesn’t mean every day feels easy. It means: Your energy feels cleaner. Your effort feels more honest. Your body isn’t constantly resisting what you’re doing. There’s a difference between being stretched… and being strained. And a lot of high performers have learned to live in strain and call it normal.
What Shifts Everything
For me, the shift came from awareness. From asking a different question: Not what should I do next? But, Does this actually feel like me anymore? And being willing to sit with the answer. Even when it’s unclear. Even when it disrupts what I’ve built.
If You’re Feeling This
If you’ve found yourself questioning things that once made sense…Your work, your path, your role in other people’s lives. You’re not alone in that. And it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It might mean you’ve outgrown something.
A Different Way Forward
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to make immediate changes. But you can start noticing where you feel aligned and where you feel like you’re performing. Because awareness is the moment everything you’ve been living unconsciously… becomes something you can finally choose. And over time…that awareness becomes a choice. Not from pressure. Not from habit. But from who you actually are now.
