Did I Miss My Time?

There’s a thought that has come up more than once… Did I miss my time? Sometimes it’s quiet. Almost easy to ignore. And other times… it’s not. It comes in fast. Uninvited. A moment of panic. A tightening in your chest. Like realizing, all at once, that life kept moving while yours paused And wondering if you’ll ever catch up.

The Two Years That Changed Everything

There’s a strange grief that comes with cancer. Because technically… I didn’t lose. I’m here. I made it through. I’m healthy. And yet… there were two years of my life that weren’t lived in the way I had imagined. They were spent in treatment. In survival. In getting through the day. And while I wouldn’t trade what I’ve learned…there’s still a part of me that quietly asks: What would those two years have looked like otherwise?

The Moment It Hit Me

It wasn’t in a big, defining moment. It was something simple. A children’s birthday party. Standing there, looking around… At people I’ve known for years. People who kept building their lives while I was trying to hold onto mine. Marriages. Babies. Families. Lives that moved forward. And I felt it. Not for the first time. Just more clearly. Like something that had been there… quietly, in the background, suddenly rising to the surface. Not jealousy. Not comparison in the way people assume. Something softer than that. Standing there, smiling, listening… but also aware of the quiet distance between where they were and where I was. I was genuinely happy for them. And at the same time… there was a quiet sadness for myself. For what I hope to have one day. And a moment of wondering… will it happen for me?

Did I Prioritize the Wrong Things?

That question came next. Did I spend my time wrong? Did I give too much to the wrong people? Did I build a life that wasn’t actually aligned? Because when everything stops… you start to look at it differently. Not through the lens of what looked good. But through the lens of what felt true. And sometimes those aren’t the same.

The Feeling of Being “Behind”

And then there’s the part that’s harder to ignore…That feeling of being…behind. Even when you logically know you’re not. Because life doesn’t actually follow a timeline. But it’s hard not to feel it when you can see the milestones happening around you. When it looks like everyone else is arriving somewhere you haven’t reached yet. Like time became something you could suddenly measure… even if you never used to.

What I’m Starting to Understand

I’ve sat with this more than once. Not trying to fix it. Not trying to rush past it. Just letting it be there. And what I’m starting to understand is this: I didn’t miss my time. My timeline just…shifted. Not because I did something wrong. Not because I fell behind. But because I went through something that changed the way I move through life.

The Truth About Those Two Years

Those two years weren’t empty. They weren’t lost. They were filled with things that don’t always translate into visible milestones. Resilience. Awareness. Clarity. A deeper relationship with myself. Things that don’t show up in photos. Or announcements. Or conversations at a party. But things that matter.

Holding Both

I think this is the part I’m learning how to hold: I can be happy for what others have…and still feel the sadness of not having it yet. I can be grateful to be here… and still grieve what didn’t happen. I can trust my path… and still question it sometimes. None of those cancel each other out.

If You’ve Felt This Too

If you’ve ever looked around and wondered if you’re behind… If you’ve questioned your timing, your choices, your path…You’re not alone in that. And it doesn’t mean you’ve missed anything. It might just mean your life didn’t follow the expected sequence.

A Quiet Reframe

What if nothing was missed? What if it was just…different? What if the things you’re meant for
are still there, just not on the timeline you thought they would be? I still have moments where I feel it. That quiet pull of comparison. That question in the background. But more and more, I come back to this: I’m not late. I’m just arriving in my own way. Even if it doesn’t look like I thought it would.
